Earlier today, the Regional AIDS Office (RAO), in collaboration with the Regional Education Directorate (RED 6), organized a one-day sensitization program at St. George’s Senior Secondary School in Basse. The event was chaired by Lamin S. Jammeh, Regional AIDS Coordinator 6, who led the initiative aimed at strengthening the partnership between both institutions and educating students on HIV/AIDS and Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH).
The program involved interactive sessions and discussions designed to inform students about the prevention and management of HIV/AIDS and to promote responsible sexual behavior. The goal was to empower students with accurate knowledge, enabling them to make informed decisions regarding their health and well-being.
In a separate engagement on the same day, the RAO, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, conducted a sensitization session for business entrepreneur trainees on HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). This initiative was aimed at fostering collaboration between youth and the Regional AIDS Office in the fight against HIV/AIDS in the region, recognizing the vital role that young people play in addressing the pandemic.
The collaboration between RAO, RED 6, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports underscores a commitment to supporting young people and raising awareness about critical health issues. Both efforts align with broader regional strategies to reduce HIV infections and promote reproductive health among youth.
